Bredevoort gets Village Deal: investing in livability and connection

Bredevoort is getting a solid boost for the future. With the signing of the Dorpendeal, the province of Gelderland, the municipality of Aalten and local partners are together investing € 580,000 in seven projects that strengthen meeting, connection and livability. The province contributes half, the other half is financed by contributions from partners from Bredevoort itself and the municipality.

The Village Deal is the result of the 'Future Vision Bredevoort: Future Make Together,' which was drawn up in 2024 by Bredevoorts Belang with broad resident involvement. From that vision an implementation program emerged in which meeting, social cohesion and strengthening facilities are central. Thanks to the deal, the first concrete projects can now actually be implemented.

"As a municipality, we like to contribute to initiatives that come directly from society. The Future Vision and the seven projects were created by and for residents. Thanks to this cooperation, together we can ensure that Bredevoort remains vital and attractive, now and in the future." Says alderman Rik van Lochem

Practical examples

One of the projects focuses on youth. The youth center 't Centrum will be converted into a contemporary meeting place where young people can meet and learn to organize activities themselves. 't Zand will also get a boost: with new furniture, a playground and greening, an inspiring meeting place will be created where residents can come together. In addition, the rich history of Bredevoort will be made experienceable with new routes and an experience app. This will create activities that connect young and old and bring visitors closer to the town.

Investing in livability together

Ap te Winkel, board member of Bredevoorts Belang: "The projects supported by the Village Deal affect residents from young to old and strengthen the facilities in our town. For Bredevoorts Belang, liveability is always central, and thanks to the cooperation with the province, municipality and partners, we can continue to build on this together."

Corine Lankhof, chair of the Bredevoort Future Vision Steering Committee:
"Thanks to the Village Deal, we can now take concrete steps in the realization of seven projects linked to the Future Vision. It is great to see that the energy and involvement of so many residents can now be transformed into actions, truly a result of doing things together."

About the Village Deal

With a Neighborhood or Village Deal, the province of Gelderland supports neighborhoods or villages that work together with residents, municipality and partners to improve the livability of their community. The ideas for the projects come directly from the community. As a result, they connect well with the wishes and needs of residents and contribute to the vitality, connectedness and livability of the village.

Delegate Dirk Vreugdenhil, Province of Gelderland: "With this Dorpendeal we show what is possible when residents, municipality and province invest together in the strength of a community. The projects in Bredevoort not only strengthen the quality of life, but also create more encounters and connection between people. That is exactly what we as a province stand for: vital villages where everyone can participate and feels at home."

Step by step visible results

With the Village Deal, Bredevoort's development will become visible step by step over the next few years. From new places for young people to greening squares and from joint activities to a liveable history: residents and partners together continue to build a lively and connected town.
