Manifesto against femicide signed during Orange the World
On Thursday, December 4, Alderman Wikkerink and Municipal Secretary Annemieke Gildhuis signed a manifesto against violence against women and girls on behalf of the Municipal Executive of Aalten. The manifesto was presented to representatives of the Sanne voor altijd 31 foundation. Sanne was killed in 2023 as a result of femicide; she was murdered by her ex-partner. Since then, her father in particular has been committed to raising awareness of femicide and preventing it from happening to others.

By signing the manifesto, the municipality is joining the international Orange the World campaign. Every year, from November 25 to December 10, attention is drawn worldwide to ending violence against women and girls. The color orange symbolizes a future without violence.
Alderman Wikkerink: "Violence against women and girls is not a private problem, but a social problem that concerns us all. In the municipality of Aalten, we want everyone to be able to grow up safely, Residence and life. By participating in Orange the World, we show that we do not accept violence and continue to work towards an environment in which everyone feels protected."
Municipal secretary Annemieke Gildhuis continues: "Signing this manifesto is an important signal that the municipality of Aalten takes violence against women and girls seriously. We are not only committed during Orange the World, but work throughout the year on prevention, raising awareness, and offering appropriate support to victims and their environment."
