New birth booklet for newborn babies

From now on, parents of newborn babies in the municipality Aalten will receive a new read-aloud booklet: The adventure of Pip and the golden note. For years, parents have received a booklet at the birth registration, but this time it is extra special: the story takes place in the municipality itself. Main character Pip the squirrel goes in search of the golden nut that the mayor accidentally dropped from his bicycle bag. During his adventure he passes a number of recognizable places, meets different animals and a few words appear here and there in the Achterhoek dialect. In this way, children discover a piece of their own municipality in a playful way.

The texts and colorful illustrations were created by Arjan Klein Nibbelink from Aalten, who designed the story in an accessible and cheerful way for young children.

Mayor Stapelkamp on reading aloud

"Reading aloud is important, even when children are still very young. It has a positive effect on their development and contributes to better language and reading skills. The earlier and more regularly children are read to, the greater the benefits. Moreover, it is nice that in this booklet here and there a word in the Achterhoek dialect passes by."

Sustainable printing process

Printing company Kempers from Aalten produced the booklet in an environmentally friendly way. They printed the booklet waterless with compostable, toxin-free BIO ink on FSC-certified paper.

The new booklet will be distributed at every birth declaration starting Monday, November 17. If parents make the declaration digitally, the booklet will be sent to them.
