Draft Environmental Vision 2040: Information Sessions

What will Aalten look like in 2040? Where will new homes be built, and how can we ensure that villages remain livable? How will we address issues such as climate, landscape, mobility, and energy?
The municipality of Aalten has drawn up a Draft Environmental Vision 2040. This document outlines how the living environment could develop in the coming years, while preserving what makes Aalten unique.

Worked together on the Environmental Vision

Valuable input was gathered from residents, business owners, and organizations through community consultations. This input formed the basis for the preferred scenario, which was adopted by the city council on February 24, 2026. This preferred scenario was resubmitted to the stakeholders. All of the above has led to a locally tailored elaboration of the preferred scenario in the Draft Environmental Vision.

Information Sessions

During the first week of June, the municipality is organizing four meetings to explain the area-specific details of the Draft Environmental Vision and to discuss them with you.
The meetings begin at 7:30 p.m. (doors open at 7:00 p.m.) and will last until 9:30 p.m. at the latest.

  • Monday, June 1 – Kulturhus Dinxperlo
  • Tuesday, June 2 – Kulturhus Lintelo
  • Thursday, June 4 – Elim Building (Aalten)
  • Friday, June 5 – ’t Grachthuys (Bredevoort)

Please register at omgevingsvisie@aalten.nl, specifying which evening you will be attending and how many people will be joining you.

What is the vision about?

The Environmental Vision sets the direction for Aalten through 2040. Key topics include:

  • the construction of approximately 1,350 homes, carried out in phases and in harmony with the surrounding area;
  • enhancing the quality of life in town centers and neighborhoods;
  • improving the existing living environment;
  • making decisions based on factors such as water, soil, energy, and safety;
  • protecting and enhancing the landscape, heritage, and identity.

Planning

The draft Environmental Vision will be discussed by the Mayor and Aldermen in May. It will then be considered by the City Council in June or July. After that, the vision will be made available for public review so that residents can provide further feedback. The City Council will adopt the final Environmental Vision in the fall.

Your input matters

The municipality views residents, business owners, and organizations as partners in developing our community. Many great ideas come from the community, and we are eager to build on them. Your knowledge of the area is essential to further refining our vision and ensuring its successful implementation. Everyone is welcome: residents, business owners, associations, and other stakeholders. Together, we will ensure that Aalten is ready for the future.
