Two Royal Awards for special residents of the municipality of Aalten
On Friday, October 31, Royal Honors were awarded to two special residents of the municipality of Aalten: Mr. IJsbrand Lambertus (Bart) Boom and Mr. Hendrikus Johan (Henk) Wassink. Both received the honor of Member of the Order of Orange-Nassau for their many years of selfless dedication to society.

The decorandi, who have been friends for many years, were nominated by the same applicant. Due to circumstances, the awards took place at an earlier time than usual. The decorations were presented on behalf of His Majesty the King in private, in the presence of family, friends and others involved.
Mr. Henk Wassink
Mr. Wassink has been chairman of the PCOB department Dinxperlo, now merged with the ANBO, since 2012. He organizes meetings for meeting and developing the elderly and plays a pioneering role in strengthening social connectedness. He is also co-founder of AccentPlus, a network for retired teachers, which has organized many inspiring activities since 2010.
Mr. Wassink also shows great commitment as a caregiver. Since 2016, he has been caring for his brother in a care center in Zelhem with great dedication. Previously, he was active in the Reformed Church of Dinxperlo and De Heurne and the Prostate Cancer Foundation. His many years of dedication to the church, Health society testify to his great commitment and sense of duty.
Mr. Bart Boom
Mr. Boom has been active in Dinxperlo club life since the 1970s, especially with volleyball club DIOS (formerly Favorita). He held numerous positions as referee, coach, team manager and member of the technical committee, and is a stable and connecting force within the association. With his background as a physiotherapist, he has also provided voluntary medical support to athletes for many years.
In addition to his commitment to sport, he is also committed to Health. For example, he accompanies residents of the De Bettekamp care center on the duo bike, volunteers as a driver of the electric car for the elderly and people with disabilities, and supports activities at the Friends of Dr. Jenny Foundation. His commitment, reliability, and warm personality make him an indispensable link in the community.
Special bond
The special situation in which both nominations were made - by one applicant and because of the close friendship between the decorators - makes this award extra special.
The municipality of Aalten expresses its great appreciation for the efforts of both gentlemen and warmly congratulates Mr. Henk Wassink and Mr. Bart Boom on their well-deserved Royal Honour.
