The council adopted the Cultural-Historical Inventory, Values, Expectations, and Measures Map as the basis for the archaeological policy of the municipality of Aalten. This was done in response to the Archaeological Monuments Act (Wamz).

Vestigia BV Archeology & Cultural History conducted an archaeological and cultural-historical inventory for the entire territory of Aalten and subsequently translated this into an archaeological value and expectations map and an archaeological measures map based on it. On the measures map, the municipality of Aalten is divided into eight categories. The council has linked the following measures to these eight categories:

  1. Legally protected archaeological monument: licensing through the national government (RCE);
  2. Area or terrain of archaeological value, protected city or village view: always obligation for archaeological preliminary investigation for interventions deeper than 40 cm;
  3. Village core of 1850: no requirement for archaeological preliminary investigation for interventions smaller than 100 square meters and shallower than 40 centimeters;
  4. Area with a high archaeological expectation: no requirement for archaeological preliminary investigation for interventions smaller than 500 square meters and shallower than 40 centimeters;
  5. Area with a moderate archaeological expectation: no requirement for archaeological preliminary investigation for interventions smaller than 2,500 square meters and shallower than 50 centimeters;
