Managing your own finances is not always possible. Perhaps you have a physical or mental disability, are elderly or have had to deal with a major event. In such cases protective custody may be wise.

Protective custody is ordered by a judge. Your guardian regulates all your finances. They pay the fixed costs, arrange benefits, check your eligibility for provisions or waivers and try to save for you. You will receive grocery money from the administrator.

You may find your own administrator. Registration goes through the administrator. The municipality's Financial Assistance Counselor can give advice on protective guardianship and think along with you.

Steffie provides more information on protective custody.

Debts?

Do you have debts? In principle, the protective administrator does not yet do anything with your debts. If it is possible within your budget and necessary, payment arrangements are made, but no active contact is maintained with the creditors. This comes into play when a debt settlement can be started. For this, the administrator will register you with the municipality.
