Our municipality lies in the beautiful landscape of the Achterhoek. Vast grasslands that turn into small-scale ash trees, dense wooded banks, ancient forests and unique raised bogs form a varied backdrop. We also have a rich history.

Bredevoort is a former seignory and fortified town with a beautiful old mill. But also in the other cores there are stylish churches, monuments and other places of interest. Sometimes these are ours, but more often they belong to third parties. Many tourists visit the sights combined with a trip through the beautiful countryside.

Effect of light

Some of the sights are illuminated. These lights are sometimes on all night, and the light shines in all directions in a number of situations. This can cause unnecessary light nuisance or light pollution. We speak of light pollution when the light shines into a home, for example. Light pollution is the dome of light you see in the sky due to lighting.

This is how we do it from now on

  • We illuminate municipal landmarks only when lighting adds value.
  • Lights on municipal landmarks turn off at 11 p.m.
  • After 7 p.m., we dim the lights of municipal landmarks.
  • We focus light properly on municipal landmarks. By doing so, we avoid unnecessary light pollution or light pollution.
  • We ask other owners to do the same.
  • We engage with others when the situation warrants it.
