City council meetings political-administrative frameworks for reception of asylum seekers in municipality of Aalten
Update after the Oct. 28 judgment meeting
On Oct. 22, the City Council discussed the preliminary frameworks for the reception of asylum seekers in our municipality. At that meeting, there was not enough time to complete the discussion. Therefore, the meeting was continued on Oct. 28.
At the end of that meeting, it was concluded that there was not enough time to carefully prepare and then adopt the preliminary frameworks before the scheduled council meeting on November 4. The November 4 council meeting will therefore not take place.
The council further agreed that the four groups that submitted the motion on May 27 to establish frameworks as a council will now take the lead. They are writing an initiative proposal with an initial elaboration of the frameworks. So this proposal will not be made by the board of mayor and aldermen, but by the council members themselves.
Residents can respond to this initiative proposal; it is expected by the end of November. Then the council will discuss the proposal and make a decision. This will finalize the frameworks.
Next, the college will work to find suitable locations in our municipality for reception of asylum seekers based on the established frameworks.
As soon as more is known about the public participation process, information will follow on this website and in Aalten Actueel.
Council wants to set frameworks for asylum reception
The city council decided earlier (May 27) that the college will not hold any more talks with COA about a possible location for the time being. The council first wants to establish clear agreements and Requirements (frameworks) for itself. These include, for example:
- How many shelters there should be in the municipality of Aalten ,
- What requirements and Requirements are placed on a site,
- and what further arrangements are needed.
Once the council has decided on these issues, the college makes a concrete proposal to go with them.
How does this process continue?
The council sets the frameworks in two steps:
- October/November: there will be preliminary frameworks.
- November/December: residents will have a chance to respond to these preliminary frameworks. Then the council will finalize the frameworks.
Scheduling of meetings
- Oct. 15: image-forming meeting - council members will engage with each other and COA based on all available information.
- Oct. 22: judgmental meeting - groups weigh interests and provide direction on preliminary frameworks. Continued this meeting on Oct. 28.
- Nov. 4: council meeting - preliminary frameworks will be established. This meeting has been canceled.
