City council meetings political-administrative frameworks for reception of asylum seekers in municipality of Aalten

On October 15, the city council will hold a first (image-forming) meeting about the possible arrival of a reception location for asylum seekers (AZC) in Aalten. During this meeting the council will have a discussion with the Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (COA). This conversation is about the assignment the municipality has from the national Spread Law.

The city council decided earlier (May 27) that the college will not hold any more talks with COA about a possible location for the time being. The council first wants to establish clear agreements and conditions (frameworks) itself. These include, for example:

  • How many shelters there should be in the municipality of Aalten,
  • What requirements and conditions are imposed on a site,
  • and what further arrangements are needed.

Once the council has decided on these issues, the college makes a concrete proposal to go with them.

How does this process continue?

The council sets the frameworks in two steps:

  1. October/November: there will be preliminary frameworks.
  2. November/December: residents will have a chance to respond to these preliminary frameworks. Then the council will finalize the frameworks.

Scheduling of meetings

  • Oct. 15: image-forming meeting - council members will engage with each other and COA based on all available information.
  • Oct. 22: judgmental meeting - groups weigh interests and provide direction on preliminary frameworks.
  • Nov. 4: council meeting - preliminary frameworks are set.
