Mooie Toekomst festival
On Saturday, October 11, 2025, the Mooie Toekomst in De Pol was buzzing with excitement. How can you grow old healthily and happily in the municipality of Aalten? What will your world and life look like in 2040? That was the theme of this very well-attended event. Visitors to the Mooie Toekomst Markt answers to these questions.
Alderman Joop Wikkerink opened the first edition of the festival by saying, "Everyone always acts as if the future is going to be doom and gloom with the aging population and the stagnation in elder care. But if you look for other ways of living together, and if you think creatively, a lot is possible." Exactly that atmosphere prevailed at the festival. The hundreds of visitors made many discoveries and were busy talking to each other, doing games and exercise activities.
In a smaller room, there were Mooie Toekomst throughout the day: the moving documentary Het Geheim van Aalten (The Secret of Aalten), a wonderful performance by Lab2167, informative lectures, and laughter about the future with Leo and Gerard.
As we were leaving, we heard an elderly couple say to each other, "If the future can look like this, we do feel like it and have confidence in it."
