Council chooses new construction scenario for Schaersvoorde Slingelaan
The Municipal Executive of Aalten has opted for new construction as a future-proof solution for the Schaersvoorde building on Slingelaan. Research shows that the costs of temporary accommodation and relocation during renovation are so high that new construction is much more attractive. New construction offers the opportunity to create a modern school building that meets today's requirements and the school's vision. The location of the new school building will be carefully examined in the coming period.

Before a site is chosen and a design process can begin, the college is asking the City Council for credit for follow-up research. This will include investigating possible locations and filling the new building.
Research and outcomes
The decision is based on a broad feasibility study conducted by ICSadviseurs. This study examined the space requirements, the structural and functional condition of the current building, and the costs of renovation and new construction. Schaersvoorde's future educational vision was also taken into account.
The feasibility study also briefly examined expansion options next to the Schaersvoorde Stationsplein location, on Landbouwstraat. It is suitable, but not ideal. The municipality will therefore look beyond this location alone. The follow-up study should reveal the best location.
Step into the future
The new building will prioritize a good learning environment, climate control (a major issue in the current building), and flexibility of use. This will also allow for consideration of whether the building can fulfill a broader social function in the future. Think of combinations with cultural or social institutions.Alderman
Alderman van Lochem the plans: "Students and staff deserve a pleasant and healthy learning environment. By opting for a new building, we can finally do something about the problems in the current building. At the same time, it offers opportunities to consider collaboration with other social or cultural functions. In this way, we are not only investing in good education, but also in the future of our community."
Follow-up and participation
On Sept. 30, the City Council will decide on the proposal for follow-up studies for the new building. As soon as more is clear about possible locations, the municipality will actively involve the surrounding area in the further explorations. A participation plan will be drawn up so that those involved can contribute ideas about the content and opportunities for the new building. The progress will be shared via the municipal news and other communication channels of the municipality.
