Sustainability Day on Saturday, September 26
On Saturday, September 26, the municipality of Aalten will host its third annual Sustainability Day. From 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., there will be plenty to do at the municipal yard in Aalten. The day will be entirely dedicated to sustainability.

Sustainability Day is held every two years. The goal? To inform, inspire, and get residents excited about the possibilities in the area of sustainability. Because everyone can contribute to a more sustainable future in their own way. Even small steps add up to make a big difference!
Sustainability Fair
There’s plenty to discover for young and old alike. At the lively Sustainability Market, residents can learn about various sustainable products, services, and initiatives from the municipality of Aalten. From insulation measures and energy conservation to healthy eating, biodiversity, and climate-resilient gardens: there’s plenty of inspiration to be found.
Plenty of fun activities for kids
There’s plenty for kids to do, too. During Sustainability Day, they can try out a fun activity from Staring Educatie, play at the water table, or get creative with coloring pages. And of course, they’re welcome to take a look inside and around the Field Service’s machines!
Adults can have fun, too. For example, try the Sustainable Development Goalggles, a fun game played with VR goggles that introduces you to sustainability in an interactive way. There’s also a Wheel of Fortune featuring the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These seventeen United Nations goals are aimed at creating a better and more sustainable world. Spin the wheel and learn more about sustainability!
There are also several other activities. For example, you can enter a raffle to win a rain barrel and take a look at a hydrogen-powered car. Do you have any small broken electrical appliances at home, or a stuffed animal that could use some repair? Bring them to the Repair Café and see if they can get a second life!
Sustainability Award
The Sustainability Award will also be presented during Sustainability Day. With this award, worth €500, the municipality shines a spotlight on a sustainable initiative or project from the municipality of Aalten. Examples include projects that contribute to the energy transition, climate adaptation, circularity, or biodiversity. The winner will receive a check for €500. The second- and third-place winners will also be honored during Sustainability Day.
NK Tile Flip: Out with the tiles, in with the green!
The municipality of Aalten is participating in the Dutch Tile-Flipping Championship again this year. Would you like to replace tiles with greenery? Then drop off your removed tiles for free on Saturday, September 26, between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. during Sustainability Day. Whether you’re removing one tile or an entire garden’s worth: every little bit helps! You can turn in up to 30 m² of tiles. As a thank-you, you’ll receive a free organic plant from Lageschaar Vaste Planten.
Submit Tiles
Please let us know if you plan to drop off tiles so we can account for the quantity. Email your name, address, and the number of square meters of tiles you’d like to drop off togemeente@aalten.nl.
Don't forget to report your flipped tiles via the national website of the NK Tegelwippen. That way, your contribution will count toward the tile count for the municipality of Aalten.
