Sustainability Award for "Every Drop Counts"

Thys te Poele of IedereDruppelTelt received the Sustainability Award, worth €500, during Sustainability Day. Through his initiative, he is committed to the smart collection and reuse of rainwater. Alderman Rik van Lochem presented the award at the municipal yard during the day’s opening ceremony.

The Bredevoort Food Forest and the NVB Aalten Beekeepers’ Association received the same number of points from the jury and tied for second place. Through their initiatives, they each contribute in their own way to a more sustainable community.

Looking Back on a Successful Day

The award ceremony took place during a sunny and well-attended Sustainability Day. Residents had the opportunity to learn about various sustainable initiatives and organizations. For example, visitors could have items repaired at the Repair Café, discover how we deal with flooding, and take a look at the Buitendienst’s electric vehicles. There was also plenty to learn about the animals and insects in our area, and visitors could enter a contest for a chance to win a rain barrel.

Out with the tile, in with the plant

The tile exchange campaign was also a success. Residents turned in a total of 1,138 tiles and received organic seedlings in exchange. This helps make gardens in our municipality a little greener, creates more space for plants and animals, and improves rainwater collection.

Are you planning to start working in your garden soon and make room for greenery? If so, please report your removed tiles via www.nktegelwippen.nl. That way, your contribution will count too!
