Area-based noise policy
With the municipal area-specific noise policy, choices are made about noise depending on the type of area. This protects or, if necessary, improves the quality of an area.
The policy primarily seeks to protect residents of homes and natural areas. In addition, the policy gives space to producers of noise such as companies and traffic. There must be sufficient (noise) space for this. The area-oriented noise policy must create a good balance between both needs.
The benefits of the policy are
- area-based control of noise levels in the municipality, including protecting silence
- Provide space for economic activity, including in quiet(er) areas
- clear noise regulations and thus faster permitting
- Acoustic clarity in zoning procedures
The area-oriented noise policy helps to preserve and improve spatial quality and livability through the possibilities offered by the policy to preserve where the noise quality is good and to improve where it is less good. It is applied in granting permits and zoning procedures, among other things.
The main points of this area-specific noise policy are the division into areas for which specific noise values are established. These areas are existing, and designated or zoned as such. For agricultural businesses, the already licensed noise standards remain unaffected. Only for newly established companies will the target values from this noise policy be applied.
