The municipality of Aalten and De Woonplaats are going to rent out rooms to status holders.
The municipality of Aalten and housing association De Woonplaats are going to make it possible to rent rooms to status holders. They will start a trial next year with two single-family homes.

The municipality of Aalten is obliged to house around 80 to 100 status holders each year. Status holders are refugees who have been granted a residence permit and have the right to remain in our country. This also entitles them to housing. The municipality is currently having great difficulty finding suitable housing for status holders. There are relatively many single status holders who should be moving from an asylum seekers' center to regular housing. The housing stock in Aalten is currently insufficient to meet this need. The available homes are mostly intended for families and are too large to rent to a single person.
Room-to-room rental
For the group of single status holders, the municipality of Aalten and De Woonplaats will start a trial next year in which two single-family homes will be rented out on a room-by-room basis. This will involve three single people in one single-family home. This will make good use of the capacity of a single-family home. To this end, the homes must first be made suitable and furnished.
Many single status holders are awaiting family reunification. This period now often extends to two years. Once family reunification is a reality, they move on to regular housing.
Target
Alderman Kok is pleased with the collaboration with De Woonplaats. "As a municipality, we are legally obliged to house a certain number of status holders each year. Renting rooms to single status holders is a good interim solution to meet this target."
