Found animals

Have you seen an injured or dead animal? Or an animal that needs help? Then you can report this.

Stray animals

A stray animal is a pet or domestic animal that is believed to have an owner. Examples include dogs, cats, tame rabbits, and tame birds. If you see a stray animal that needs help or has died, please contact Dierenambulance Achterhoek (Animal Ambulance Achterhoek) at 085 06 40 530.
They will check whether the animal is microchipped and whether the owner can be traced. If the owner is unknown, the animal ambulance will take the injured animal to the Dierencentrum Achterhoek or another suitable shelter. The costs of the animal ambulance are borne by the owner of the animal. If the owner is unknown, the municipality will pay the costs. As the person reporting the animal, you do not have to pay any costs.

Animals that live in the wild

Have you found an injured animal? Such as a duck, bird of prey, hedgehog, hare, or rabbit? Please contact Dierenambulance Achterhoek (Animal Ambulance Achterhoek) on 085 06 40 530. They will assess the circumstances and health of the animal and ensure that it is collected if necessary and possible. They may also put you in touch with a shelter. The municipality is not responsible for veterinary costs for animals that are believed to be ownerless.

If you find dead small game on the road, please contact the municipality.

If you find injured or dead large game (such as a deer, stag, or fox), contact the police at 0900 8844. When you call, state whether you hit the animal yourself or found it. The police will forward your report to the wildlife management unit. They will collect the animal. If the animal is seriously injured, they are authorized to put it out of its misery.

If you see a dead animal in the water, report it as soon as possible to the Rijn en IJssel Water Board, telephone number 0314 36 93 69. Carcasses increase the risk of an outbreak and spread of botulism in the water and must therefore be removed quickly. Do not do this yourself, but contact the water board.
