Gravestone or memorial placement
What is it?
If you want to place a headstone or memorial plaque on a grave, you need a permit from the municipality. Your gravestone specialist can arrange this for you.
If you want to place a memorial in a public place, you need permission from the road authority. This is often the municipality, but can also be the Department of Public Works, the province or the water board. It is important that the memorial does not endanger traffic safety. For example, you can place a memorial in a public place for a traffic victim or victim of senseless violence.
What to do
In almost all cases, the application for a permit to place a memorial/memorial stone is submitted by a stonemason but you, as the rightful owner, can of course do this yourself. In the application you mention which grave it concerns, in which cemetery the grave is and who is buried in it. Also attach a drawing in duplicate stating the dimensions of the memorial and the materials to be used.
What does it cost?
