Dog tax
What is it?
You pay dog tax if you have a dog. Register your dog with the municipality. You will then receive a dog tax assessment from the municipality once a year.
For a (guide) dog you do not have to pay tax. Also for dogs, which stay in a shelter and for puppies younger than 3 months (if they stay with the mother dog) you do not pay dog tax.
What to do.
Procedure
- You are required, within the time limit set by your municipality, to notify the municipality that you have become the keeper of one or more dogs. The municipality has forms on which you can indicate this.
- Based on your information, the municipality sends an annual assessment to the principal resident.
- If you do not register your dog(s), the municipality may still charge you afterwards (as a result of investigation by a dog inspector).
Objection
If you disagree with the assessment, you can object within six weeks of the date of the assessment notice by filing a notice of objection. In your objection, state the assessment number and explain why you disagree. Address the notice of objection to the Heffingsambtenaar van de gemeente Aalten, Postbus 119, 7120 AC Aalten.
Notice! Filing an objection does not suspend the payment obligation.
