Meet Alex Walter

Who are the people behind these positions? What motivates them, and what do they hope to accomplish in the coming years? Over the next few weeks, the members of the Mayor and Aldermen’s Council—and later, the city council members as well—will introduce themselves to you. They’ll share more about themselves, their roles, and what they consider important for our municipality.

This week, “ Alderman ” features Alex Walter, who shares more about himself and his role on the city council. 

“My name is Alex Walter, and I am 66 years old. I was born and raised in our beautiful parish village of Dinxperlo, and I still live there happily with my wife, Erma. Our two children (a daughter and a son) have been living on their own for quite some time now and live in Lintelo and Nijverdal, respectively. 

In addition to my work as a manager of a sports facility, I also wanted to contribute to our community in other ways. That’s why I joined GemeenteBelangen, a local political party in our municipality. My curiosity about why things happen the way they do in our community remains my main motivation. In May 2010, I began serving as a council member, and I’ve had the pleasure of doing so for 16 years. 

When I was asked to become “ Alderman ,” I naturally gave it a lot of thought. In the end, it wasn’t all that difficult, because what could be better than actually turning political ambitions into administrative responsibility? I see this new position as an exciting new phase in my political career. At the same time, it feels like taking another leap of faith. 

We have divided up the portfolios within the City Council. My portfolio includes, among other things: 

  • public space; 
  • mobility; 
  • operations; 
  • Omgevingswet and omgevingsvisie; 
  • economy (hospitality, retail, and weekly markets); 
  • local and regional media; 
  • animal welfare. 

In short, it’s a great project that I’m eager to get started on. I’ll be working on it not only with my fellow board members, but also with the relevant government officials. 

I believe it’s important to be visible and approachable. By listening carefully to residents, business owners, and community organizations, I want to work together to create a municipality where everyone feels at home.  

To me, openness, reliability, and cooperation form the foundation of good governance. That is why I warmly invite you to reach out to me whenever there are issues where the municipality might be able to assist you. I am fully committed to this for the next four years. Let’s work together to make our municipality even better wherever opportunities arise.
