Measures for Sewage Following the Complexie Fire
During the firefighting efforts at Complexie on Helmkamp in Dinxperlo (on September 21, 2026), a large amount of firefighting water was used, most of which was discharged through the sewer system. It has been determined that the water used at the start of the firefighting efforts originated from the Blauwe Meer. The water from the Blauwe Meer is contaminated with PFAS, which means that the sewage water is now also contaminated.
The wastewater treatment plant cannot accept the contaminated sewage. Therefore, tonight the contaminated sewage will be pumped out of the sewer system and temporarily stored elsewhere.
To determine what next steps are needed to ensure the responsible disposal and treatment of the contaminated water, the severity and extent of the contamination are being investigated. The results of that investigation are expected to be available early next week.
At this time, there are no impacts on residents' use of the sewer system. If this changes, we will inform residents as soon as possible.
