Mediation
What is it?
Sometimes the municipality and you disagree. For example, you have a complaint or you want to object. Perhaps you have a problem with a third party. You want to be heard and you do not need all kinds of legal procedures. A good conversation led by a mediator is then a possibility.
The independent mediator (mediator) works with the parties in conflict to find a solution to the existing problem. In mediation, you work on this solution yourself with the help of the mediator. This is done on a voluntary basis. The interests of the parties are central. The solution must be acceptable to all parties.
Mediation occurs under the guidance of a neutral person, the mediator. The mediator is independent, impartial and has no interest in the outcome. The mediator makes no substantive contribution to the conversation, does not pass judgment, but does check to see if the solution is feasible. All parties have a say and everyone is heard. The conversations are confidential.
How does it work?
When a request for mediation is received, an intake interview with the mediator will follow. During the intake interview, it will become clear whether the case is suitable for mediation. We will then ask whether all parties are willing to cooperate in mediation. If so, the case will be handled by a mediator. If not, mediation will not be initiated. The municipality of Aalten works together with a number of municipalities in the eastern Netherlands. Mediators do not mediate in the municipality where they work. This ensures that there is always a neutral mediator present during the meeting.
What does it cost?
There is no cost associated with mediation, unless you choose a mediator yourself. In that case, you must agree on the costs with the municipality.
