Natural areas and forests

Our municipality has a large and green rural area. Part of our municipality lies within the beautiful National Landscape. We have a lot of nature in the municipality, such as the rolling ash tree landscape near Aalten and Barlo, the 't Aaltense Goor nature reserve, the IJzerlose Rug and the monastery landscape near Bredevoort, the Slinge stream, and the Keizersbeek stream. Each of these areas is of great value.
Not only our own residents but also tourists cherish these nature reserves and forests.

Nightscape
The natural areas and forests are still relatively dark. We do see more and more light visible from the surrounding cores.

Environmental Management Act

The protection of darkness and the dark landscape is covered by the Environmental Management Act, the Environmental Management Activities Decree and the duty of care of municipalities.

This is how we do it from now on

  • In our natural areas and forests, we do not place lights to keep those areas as dark as possible.
  • If warranted, we will engage with owners of disruptive and unnecessary light sources.
