Tourism is a more important pillar for our municipality. We have many day-trippers and people who stay a little longer. Partly, of course, because of our beautiful nature and location. We have several recreational businesses. These are often located in the countryside.

Natural darkness

In our countryside and sometimes in natural areas, there are many recreational opportunities. These are sensitive areas for flora and fauna. In addition, many recreationists and tourists come precisely for the green and natural appearance of our municipality. They appreciate the natural darkness and beautiful starry skies of the outlying area and nature reserves.

Laws and regulations

In our outlying area, the Achterhoek regional spatial policy plays a major role. The characteristics of the Achterhoek must be preserved. Spatial developments can be accommodated, but with preservation of the existing unique character. In other words, initiatives are tested to the extent to which they contribute to the preservation and development of the area. We must treat our landscape with care.

In addition, in the outlying area the zoning plans play a role.
"initiatives are partly assessed on the extent to which they contribute to the preservation and development of the quality of the environment, for example, effects on landscape (image quality), residential and living environment, traffic and nature.

This is how we do it from now on

  • We ask recreationists to be cautious with lighting. To dim lights starting at 7 p.m. and turn off lights at night.
  • If warranted, we will engage with recreation operators to educate them about conscious lighting.
  • We ourselves are also cautious about light in natural and outdoor areas.
  • We ask visitors to be cautious about lighting as well.
