Travel document for Dutch nationals living abroad
Do you have the Dutch nationality? And have you been deregistered from the Basic Registration of Persons (BRP) because you live abroad? Then you can apply to us for a passport and/or an identity card. You can make an appointment.
Note!
It is not possible to have the requested document delivered to you! The document can only be picked up in person at our location.
No fixed place of residence or domicile
Do you have Dutch nationality but no permanent place of residence? If so, you may be able to register at a correspondence address in the municipality where you are staying. Once you are registered, you can apply for a passport or identity card in the municipality where the correspondence address is registered.
Are you unable to register at a mailing address?
Then you can still apply for a passport or identity card. You do not need to complete the checklist on the Netherlands Worldwide website.
You must prove that you were in the Netherlands from the date of your deregistration in the Personal Records Database (BRP) until the date of your application. You can prove this with:
- statements from benefit agencies,
- an employer's statement,
- pay slips,
- insurance documents,
- a residence permit
- or bank statements covering this entire period.
Did you stay abroad for a period of time? If so, you can prove this with your visa. Do you still have a valid or expired Dutch passport or identity card? If so, please include these with the other supporting documents.
Do you have a residential address in the Netherlands but no longer have a valid Dutch passport or identity card? The municipality can also register you without a valid Dutch passport or identity card.
Good to know
- Have you already filled out the personal checklist on the Netherlands Worldwide website? You will need this to know which documents to bring to the appointment (check per person). After completing this checklist you will get an overview of the documents you need. If you are unsure about what to bring or have questions? Please contact us at grensgemeente@aalten.nl.
- You must be present in person at the time of application; this includes children.
- It is not possible to have the requested document delivered to you! You can only pick up your document in person at our location.
- You may not have multiple applications pending at different border municipalities at the same time.
- You cancel in time if your application file does not need further processing, or if you cannot come to your appointment. Please contact the municipality for this purpose.
