Urgent application

You can apply for an expedited driver's licence. If you submit your application before 2 PM, the driver's licence will be ready for you to pick up after 10 AM on the next working day.

Driver's licence lost or stolen

• report this online at the RDW, for this you need DigiD (if you do not have DigiD, report the loss to the municipality)
• You then apply for a new driver's licence at the municipality.
• Your old driver's licence is now no longer valid

You can take the theory exam for a moped license from the age of 15.5. From the age of 16, you can take driving lessons and take the practical exam.

You need a moped license to drive a:

• moped
• scooter
• moped
• moped
• quad
• trike
• speed pedelec (bicycle with electric pedal assistance with a maximum speed of 45 kilometers per hour)

If you have a driver's license (driver's licence ) or motorcycle license (driver's licence ), the moped license (driver's licence ) will automatically be added to your driver's licence.

• A recent passport photo that meets the requirements for a passport photo. The photo must not be older than 6 months.
• When renewing your driver's licence: your current driver's licence
• For an expired driver's licence: a valid passport or ID card and the expired driver's licence
• Application for a first driver's licence: a valid passport or ID card

Payment is made upon application for the driver's licence, preferably by debit card.

Validity

A driver's licence generally valid for 10 years. This changes from your 65th birthday or if you are required to undergo a medical examination:

• If you are between 65 and 70 years old, your driver's licence will be driver's licence until your 75th birthday.
• If you are between 70 and 75 years old, your driver's licence will be renewed driver's licence 5 years.
• You are 75 years of age or older: up to 5 years (depending on medical examination)

Health Statement

For a medical examination, you will need a health declaration. You can easily purchase this online from the CBR.

Medical examination

You must be medically fit when applying for or renewing a driver's licence :

• you are 75 years of age or older and your driver's licence
• You have a medical disability
• you driver's licence a driver's licence for a truck or bus

You can arrange a medical examination through the CBR. 

Starting July 1, 2023, the Digital Government Act goes into effect and driver's licenses can be used to log in online.

 What does logging in with an identity document (driver's licence identity card) entail?

In the future, logging in with an identity document will give access to personal data that is particularly sensitive. To protect this data effectively, organizations want even more certainty that the data is being shared with the right person. Logging in with a driver's licence ID card using the DigiD app provides that extra assurance and thus ensures maximum protection of a person's data. From July 1, it will be possible to log in with a driver's licence, but there is currently no service that requires logging in at this level.
