You can renew your Driver's licence online. This can be done at a time that is convenient for you. You can find more information and arrange the application directly through the RDW website.

You can apply for a Driver's licence with urgency. If you do so before 2 p.m., the Driver's licence s license will be ready for you the next business day after 10 a.m.

• report this online at the RDW, for this you need DigiD (if you do not have DigiD, report the loss to the municipality)
• then apply to the municipality for a new Driver's licence

Starting July 1, 2023, the Digital Government Act goes into effect and driver's licenses can be used to log in online.

 Did you apply for a new Driver's licence on or after July 1, 2023?

Within 5 business days of picking up the Driver's licence license, you will receive a letter with a DigiD pin code. With this pin code you can activate the login function.

 What does logging in with an ID (driver's license or ID card) entail?

In the future, logging in with an ID card will give access to personal data that is particularly sensitive. To protect this data properly, organizations want even more certainty that the data is being shared with the right person. Logging in with a driver's license or ID card using the DigiD app provides that extra assurance and thus ensures maximum protection of a person's data. From July 1, it will be possible to log in with a driver's license, but there is not yet a service that requires logging in at this level.

• A recent passport photo that meets the requirements for a passport photo. The photo must not be older than 6 months.
• when renewing your Driver's licence: your current Driver's licence
• for expired Driver's licence: a valid passport or id card and the expired Driver's licence
• application for first Driver's licence: a valid passport or id proof

Validity

A Driver's licence license is basically valid for 10 years. From your 65th birthday or if you need a medical examination, this changes:

• you are between the ages of 65 and 70, then your Driver's licence will be extended until your 75th birthday
• you are between the ages of 70 and 75, your Driver's licence will be renewed for 5 years
• You are 75 years of age or older: up to 5 years (depending on medical examination)

For a medical examination, you need a health certificate. You can easily buy this online from the CBR. If you can't, make an appointment to buy a paper health certificate from us.

You must be medically fit when applying for or renewing a Driver's licence if:

• You are 75 years of age or older and your Driver's licence is expiring
• You have a medical disability
• You need a Driver's licence for a truck or bus
