How does it work?

You can report your departure from the Netherlands online if all residents of the address are emigrating at the same time.

If you live with several people at one address and not everyone goes with you, everyone who does go with you must visit the municipality in person. This also applies to children under the age of 18.

Who can pass on an emigration?

• anyone 16 years of age or older
• parents, guardians or caregivers for children under 16 years of age
• parents for their resident adult child or children (only if parents and resident children move abroad together)
• cohabiting spouses or registered partners for each other (only if spouses and partners move abroad together)
• adult children for resident parent(s) (only if adult resident children and parent(s) move abroad together)
• the trustee for a person under guardianship.

Declaration of moving abroad by an authorized representative is not possible.

What to do

You notify the municipality of your departure up to 5 days in advance. When doing so, please provide the following information:

• the names and dates of birth of family members emigrating with you
• your old address
• your new address
• the date of emigration

Note

You will be deregistered on the day you report your move (i.e., not as of your actual departure date).

Keeping Your Information on File After Leaving the Netherlands

If you move abroad, it is important that your address and contact information on file with the Dutch government are accurate and up to date. This ensures that organizations can continue to reach you and that you receive important information, such as: 

• allowances
• retirement
• benefit
• tax matters or
• student financial aid. 

In addition, having a correct address helps ensure you receive official mail, such as ballots, and facilitates the smooth handling of matters such as inheritances.

Would you like to receive an annual digital reminder to check or update your information? If so, select the National Identity Data Service (RvIG) in the MijnOverheid and give your consent to receive digital messages.

Additional Information

Completing this form with incorrect information may be considered a violation of the obligation to file a declaration as provided for in the Basic Registration of Persons Act.

Pursuant to Section 4.17 Personal Records Act, this can be fined with an administrative fine of up to €325.

Privacy

All information you provide to us is handled with care. Personal and/or address details will only be used for the purpose for which you provided them.

Additional information

It is not possible at the municipality to print an extract with departure details after the day of departure. You can only do this at one of the RNI counters.
