Communicating relocation

If you move to or within this municipality, you must notify this municipality. Do this no later than 5 days after you move.

If you are late in reporting it, it may affect such things as rent allowance, student loans, your parking permit, municipal taxes or benefits.

How does it work?

The following individuals may report a move:

  • everyone 16 years and older for themselves
  • cohabiting spouses/registered partners for each other (only if they move together from one address to another)
  • the parent, guardian or caregiver for minor children
  • parent(s) for resident adult children (only if they move together from one address to another)
  • adult children for resident parent(s) (only if they move together from one address to another)
  • the trustee for a person under guardianship
  • the head of the institution for persons residing in an institution
  • someone you have authorized to communicate the move for you

Authorize someone

For an authorization, write a letter containing the following information:

'I hereby authorize (your initials, last name, date of birth and place of birth and address), the person listed below (initials, last name, date of birth and place of birth and address of the person you authorize) to notify me of my move from (old address) to (new address).'

Sign this letter and give it to the authorized representative.

At the counter, the proxy must show the following:

  • his or her valid ID
  • (a copy of) your valid proof of identity
  • proof of your new address, for example, a purchase or rental contract or permission main tenant if you are going to live with someone
  • the signed authorization letter

Authorities that need the details of your move

The municipality passes on your relocation to the agencies that need this information to perform their legal duties.

What to do.

Report your move to the new municipality. Do this no later than 5 days after you have moved. If you want to report the move earlier, you can do so up to 4 weeks before the date of relocation.

Notice:

If you report a change of address after moving, the date of moving is the date of change of address. This must be done within 5 days of moving.

  • If you report later, the date you report the change to the municipality is the official date of change of address.
  • If you have passed on a move in the future, the municipality will update the address information on the date you pass on. This will then be the date of address change.

Make sure you give all the information the municipality needs. Otherwise, the municipality will not update your address information.
