Questions about message from municipality?

You have received a message from the municipality, addressed to Sietske Kooistra and Daphne Ekelhof. We would like to explain the reason for this message. On this page you will also find answers to questions you may have about the message.

We received a notification about payment delays

Health insurance companies, energy companies, housing landlords and drinking water companies notify the municipality if they are behind in payments. This is a signal for us to offer help to residents.

We received such a notification about your residential address and we would like to contact you to hear if you need help. That's why we sent you a message. We are not a bailiff or a collection agency. We just want to know if we can help with anything. Do you have financial questions or are you tight on money? Maybe the notification is incorrect and we sent you a message unfairly. In all situations: contact us! You can do so in the following ways:

From whom does the municipality receive a notification? And when?

The municipality may receive a notification from your health insurance company, energy supplier, landlord or drinking water company. If you have not paid a bill, they will first contact you themselves. If you haven't paid the bill after 60 days, they notify the municipality. Sometimes you get a little more time, and the municipality gets the notification a little later. No notification may be made within those 60 days.

Can organizations just pass on my information to you?

Yes. But only health insurance companies, energy companies, housing landlords and drinking water companies are allowed to do so, and only if bills have not been paid (in full). The municipality needs your data to be able to offer you help. As a municipality, we are also legally obliged to do so. This is laid down in the Municipal Debt Assistance Act (Wgs).

What data are you getting?

A notification to the municipality consists of

  • Your name
  • Address details
  • Contact details
  • Number of months in arrears
  • The outstanding amount

I am being disconnected / evicted. What should I do?

You received a card from us informing you that your supplier/landlord wants to foreclose/evacuate you. We have asked you to contact us. It is wise to do this as soon as possible! We would like to help and try to prevent the disconnection/eviction or look for other options together.

You can contact us by phone at (0543) 49 33 33. Mailing is also possible. Send a message to gemeente@aalten.nl. Put 'SPOED help with money matters' in the subject and state the telephone number where you can be reached. We will contact you as soon as possible.

I can resolve my payment delays myself, should I still contact them?

Yes, even then we would like to have a word with you.

What happens to the notification if I don't make contact?

What happens to the notification if I do not contact?

You are not required to contact them. However, it is wise to take action as soon as possible. A small arrearage is resolved faster than a large one. And chances are that a small arrears will quickly become a large debt because of all the interest and fees that come with it.
