Exhibition 'Craftsmanship' in Library Aalten
An ode to the makers of today and tomorrow.
The exhibition Craftsmanship will be on display at the Achterhoekse Poort Library in Aalten from November 5 to December 7, 2025. The exhibition shows how indispensable skilled workers are to our society and economy.

The exhibition is an initiative of the Social and Economic Council (SER) of Overijssel and ties in with their advisory report 'No transition without craftsmanship', drawn up for the Provincial Executive of Overijssel. The Achterhoekse Poort Library and the municipality of Aalten made a conscious decision to bring this traveling exhibition to Aalten.
Craftsmanship past and present
Aalten has a rich tradition of craftsmanship and expertise, deeply rooted in the local community. From technology and construction to Health, education, and entrepreneurship, skilled professionals form the backbone of our society. By displaying these portraits here, we highlight how important these people are and how essential it is to pass on their knowledge and experience to new generations.
About the exhibition
The exhibition features portraits of craftsmen and craftswomen from various industries, accompanied by a personal quote. They approach their dedication, passion and pride for their craft. The artworks invite visitors to reflect on the importance of vocational training and appreciation for crafts.
Reason
The advisory report "No transition without craftsmanship!" can be read at: www.ser-overijssel.nl. Linked to the advisory report is an exhibition of portraits of professionals. This is to underline the recognition and appreciation of craftsmanship. The portraits were made by Dion Osté, Roos Vonk and Femke Rutgers, from ArtEZ in Zwolle.
Beginning Wednesday, Nov. 5, the exhibit will be free to view during library hours.
