Starting a hotel, bed and breakfast or campground

What is it?

If you are starting a hotel, bed and breakfast (B&B), campsite, or other overnight accommodation, you must report this to the municipality. You must also contact the municipality if you are taking over, relocating, or closing down such an establishment.

What to do.

  • You notify the municipality that you want to start a hotel, B&B, campsite, or other overnight accommodation. Provide the following information:
    • information about the manager
    • the location of your company
  • Can more than 10 people stay overnight at your company at the same time? If so, apply for an environmental permit for fire safety via the Omgevingsloket(Environmental Permit Desk) at .
  • If you also want to sell alcohol, you must apply for an alcohol license from the municipality.

Keep a night register

Every business that offers accommodation must keep a night register. This is required by law. In the night register, you must record details of all guests. Enter the following information in the night register:

  • guest's name and address
  • day of arrival
  • departure date
  • what form of identification the guest presented

Additional information

There is a lot involved in starting a hotel, B&B, or campsite. You may need additional permits, for example, for renovations and advertising. You will also have to comply with rules on hygiene, hospitality, and catering. The municipality will be happy to help you with this.
