Childcare allowance
What is it?
Childcare allowance is a (partial) reimbursement of childcare costs. For example, if your children attend a daycare center, out-of-school care or a guest parent.
You can apply for the supplement if:
- you and your partner work during the day
- you are in training
- you receive benefits
How much allowance you will receive depends on your income level, the number of children and the type of care. At the Belastingdienst you can make a test calculation to see how much childcare allowance you can get.
How does it work?
You can get the allowance for the following types of child care:
- Daycare and preschool in a daycare center.
- Extracurricular care of children aged 4 to 12.
- Guest parent care. You can only receive allowance for a guest parent who is registered with a registered guest parent agency.
- Parent participation creches where a group of parents take turns caring for their own children.
The childcare allowance makes it possible for parents to combine work and care. Parents must pay a co-payment for childcare. If your child attends a registered childcare center, you may be eligible for this allowance. You can look up whether your childcare center is registered in the Landelijk Register Kinderopvang (LRK).
What to do.
You can apply for the childcare allowance through My Benefits. Log in with your DigiD.
What do I need?
- Proof of your and your partner's income
- Cost statement from the child care organization
- If you have debts, attach documents that prove this
Financial reimbursement for child care costs
Don't have an employer and need to use childcare? Not the Tax Office (as there is no employer), but the Employee Insurance Administration (UWV) or the municipality pays part of the cost of childcare in certain cases. You also belong to the target group entitled to a contribution towards the costs of childcare if you follow a (re)integration program through the UWV and you receive benefits under the WW, WIA, WAO, Sickness Insurance Act or Wajong.
If you are not sure whether you meet the conditions, you can find further information on the site of the Tax Office. Or inquire with the Intermunicipal Collaboration for Work and Income (ISWI), they administer the scheme on behalf of the municipality of Aalten.
How long does it take?
You will be notified within 8 weeks whether you will receive child care subsidies.
Objecting
If you disagree with the decision, you can object within 6 weeks.
