Order under penalty for drug dealers

Mayor Stapelkamp imposed a restraining order on three men. The men were arrested for possession and dealing drugs.

An order under penalty is an administrative measure that the mayor can impose to prevent the offense from being repeated. If those involved are caught with drugs again, they must pay a sum of money each time. How high that amount is depends on the risk and consequences caused by the drug possession and dealing. In one case, an amount of €5,000 per offense was set (soft drugs) and in the other two cases €7,500 per offense (hard drugs). This administrative measure is separate from criminal prosecution by the judiciary.

Mayor Anton Stapelkamp: "I want to protect the residents of the municipality of Aalten as much as possible from drug activities and their negative consequences. It is important that we feel safe and that our living environment is protected. That is why it is necessary to tackle drug crime. I am concerned about increasing drug use. I also hope that the measure imposed, a penalty order, is a warning. We want to avoid making wrong choices that could affect the future of the individuals involved."

Effective approach

Municipality of Aalten is committed to addressing drug crime. Production, trade and storage of drugs can create dangerous situations. It is therefore prohibited.

Police, prosecutors and the municipality work closely together in fighting crime and tackling nuisance. Each from its own powers and duties, but with a common goal.
