New housing agreements Aalten set for 2025

On Wednesday, December 11, the municipality of Aalten, housing corporation De Woonplaats, Tenants Association Dinxperlo and Tenants Association 't Walfort signed the performance agreements for 2025. In the coming year, priority will be given to realizing the previously agreed numbers for housing. With concrete projects as well as research into new locations. Other important themes are making housing more sustainable and getting seniors to move on.

Every year, the municipality of Aalten consults with De Woonplaats and tenant associations about performance agreements. In this agreement they lay down the plans for housing policy for the coming year.

New construction of social housing

De Woonplaats is actively rebuilding in Aalten. Whereas 56 new homes were completed on Ludgerstraat last year, the completion of 11 new apartments on Hogestraat is expected at the end of 2025. On the site at Hogestraat 34, 34a and 36 were old buildings. Together with the municipality of Aalten, it was therefore decided to demolish the premises and build a new small-scale apartment complex in their place. This will give a positive boost to the center of Aalten.
Another new construction project is planned on the Eerste Broekdijk in Aalten. De Woonplaats wants to build 10 sustainable single-family homes on a fallow site. The vacant office building at 119 Driessenshof will also be converted into 6 apartments. The plans for this are being further elaborated and De Woonplaats hopes to start work on this in the course of 2025.

In addition, new housing locations are part of discussions in 2025 and the parties are jointly investigating the feasibility. Examples are 't Beggelder in Dinxperlo and the Slingeplas in Bredevoort.

Continuing sustainability

The parties have made agreements on making rental housing in Aalten more sustainable. In doing so, they are contributing to combating energy poverty among tenants and reducing CO2 emissions. De Woonplaats gives priority to making rental homes with an E, F and G label more sustainable. A major step has already been taken: 5.5% of the homes (130 units) still have a low energy label. By the end of 2028, De Woonplaats aims to have phased out these energy labels.

Evaluation flow through seniors

De Woonplaats has started a pilot aimed at moving seniors through. This project is called "Comfortable at Home. This approach was developed within the Achterhoek corporations and is designed to engage in conversation with seniors about their housing situation. People over 65 who leave a single-family home owned by De Woonplaats have the opportunity to move on to senior housing with priority. The goal is that seniors can live independently for longer and single-family homes become available for families. In 2025, the pilot will be evaluated and the corporation wants to follow up on this targeted flow. The municipality follows up on this and also wants to raise awareness among seniors with owner-occupied housing.
