What is it?

You need an environmental permit for certain work on or around your home or business premises. For example, if you want to build, renovate, demolish or cut down a tree.

What to do.

Consult with the municipality in advance about your plans. Then there will be no surprises. This is called a preliminary consultation. When making your plans, contact the municipality as early as possible.

  • Check on Omgevingsloket online whether you need an environmental permit.
  • If you need a permit, apply for it through Omgevingsloket online. Do this at least 8 weeks before you want to start the work. For an extensive application, do this at least 6 months in advance.
  • With an extended application, the municipality first makes a draft decision on your application. This draft decision is not yet a final decision. Anyone can give their opinion on this draft decision within 6 weeks. This is called an opinion.
  • If you disagree with the draft decision, state why in your view.
  • You will automatically be notified whether you will receive the permit.

If you are applying for an environmental permit with a construction sum of €500,000 or more, you must also complete a Bibob Act form.

What do I need?

  • If you are applying for an environmental permit for your home, you will need your DigiD.
  • If you apply for an environmental permit for your business, you need eHerkenning.

Furthermore, what documents and data you need depends on your application. For example:

  • a calculation or construction drawing
  • floor plans of the building floors (1:100 scale)
  • A site drawing (scale 1:1000 to 1:1500)
  • A drawing of the facade elevations (scale 1:100)
  • cross sections and longitudinal sections (scale 1:100)
  • details about the appearance of the structure

Be sure to include drawings that show the current AND new situation.
