Founding new political party

You want to participate with a new political party in the municipal elections on March 18, 2026. Below is a description of the various steps you need to take.

Establish an association for the party

To participate as a political party, a party must be an association with "full legal capacity. The party's constitution and incorporation must be recorded in a notarial deed. 

Register the party with the Chamber of Commerce (CoC) 

Register the political party with the Chamber of Commerce as a non-profit association

Register the name (designation) of the party 

  • Note: Registration of a designation is not required.
  • Registration of the party name is possible until December 22, 2025 at the latest. 

Do you want your party's name to appear at the top of the list of candidates and on the ballot paper? Then submit a request to the central electoral committee of the municipality of Aalten to register the name (designation) of your party. Before you can do that, you pay a deposit.

Paying deposit 

You pay a deposit of € 112.50 for the registration of the candidacy. Transfer the amount to account NL 06 BNGH 0285 0000 20 stating 'registration designation political party'. Upon receipt of the deposit, you will receive proof of payment. 

Submit request for registration 

Request a form for a request for registration of an appellation (Model G 1-1) via email: verkiezingen@aalten.nl. Deliver the completed and signed form to the municipal central election office. Make an appointment to do so by phone: 0543 49 33 33.

At registration, in addition to the completed and signed form, submit the following documents: 

  • The bylaws established in a notarial deed.
  • Proof of payment of deposit.
  • A statement by the party designating a proxy and alternate proxy. The proxies may authorize those submitting candidate lists to place the name above the list. The names of proxies are listed in the party's bylaws. 

Candidacy Feb. 2, 2026  

On candidacy day on Feb. 2, 2026, all political parties submit their candidate lists along with supplementary documents.
