Burning prunings
What is it?
Outdoor burning of prunings is prohibited. Only the burning of prunings from landscape maintenance can be exempted by the municipality. No exemption is possible for burning prunings within built-up areas.
You do not need an exemption for fire with candles, torches, braziers, patio fireplaces or for a fire for cooking, baking and roasting, such as a barbecue.
Lighting fires during dry periods or when storms are approaching puts you at risk of wildfire. Therefore, before you start stoking, check www.natuurbrandrisico.nl. It tells you whether you may light fires and, if so, how you can do so responsibly. In any case, you may not light fires during code orange and red.
How does it work?
Waiver Application
An exemption for burning prunings can be applied for digitally.
Reasons for denying the waiver are:
- The importance of public order and safety.
- Protection of residential and living environments.
- Protection of flora and fauna.
- Nuisance prevention.
- Useful application of waste materials.
If the municipality denies you the requested waiver, you can object to it up to six weeks after that decision is sent.

Privacy
All information you provide to us will be treated with care. Personal and/or address information will be used only for the purpose for which you have provided it.
How long does it take?
When evaluating an application for a waiver, the breeding season of birds is taken into account. The waiver is therefore granted only for the period from August 1 to March 1.
Terms
An exemption is subject to conditions. These include, for example, the minimum distance from buildings or a forest, or the materials you may use to light the fire.
