Housing development Singel
The municipality of Aalten is set to begin work on the urban development plan for housing construction on Singelweg. On July 8, 2025, the mayor and aldermen decided to combine the Singel 1 and Singel 2 locations, Singelweg adjacent to each other on Singelweg , into a single plan for a new residential area.
Alderman Kok: “The Singel 1 housing development site had been in the planning stages for some time, and sketches had already been made. By also including Singel 2, a logical unity is created with more space for housing and a better layout of the area.”
Temporary shelter not off the table, but on hold
Previously, Singel 2 was proposed by the municipal executive as a possible location for the temporary accommodation of asylum seekers. The city council has since called on the municipal executive to suspend this plan for the time being. The council first wants to establish a framework within which the accommodation of asylum seekers must take place. This will be followed by a new assignment to the municipal executive to find a suitable location based on that framework.
When drawing up the urban development plan, the municipality does take into account that temporary use by the COA is still possible. However, no new decision has been made at this time regarding reception at this location.
